27.1 Rewrite in Passive
  1. All computers should be turned off before you leave.
  2. Protecting glasses must be worn at all times.
  3. We should have been told about the exam.
  4. The roof is being repaired until late in the week.
  5. All the tourists should be given a guidebook.
  6. You must have been bitten running across the street.
  7. Our car should have been repaired two days ago.
27.2 Passive Sentences
  1. The old floors must be mopped at the end of the day.
  2. That ugly building should have been demolished long ago.
  3. The mountain can be climbed with the help of ropes.
  4. The forest must be protected from destruction.
  5. You should have been told if you'd remained calm.
27.3 Mixed Passive
  1. Bicycles should only be ridden if you are wearing a helmet.
  2. The dentist told me that one of my teeth must be removed.
  3. Clara should have been given more time to finish her assignment.
  4. Everyone should be warned that a tiger has escaped from the zoo.
  5. The steak should be fried for one minute on each side.
  6. The accident might have been avoided if the car hadn't been going so fast.

28.2 Passive News

  4. My aunt's car got stolen from the parking lot at work.
  5. The store is known to sell high-quality shoes.
  6. It has been reported that Ella is going to start performing again.
  7. The concert is due once a month by our gardener.
  8. It is rumored that we are going to have an exam today.

29. Conditionals (Type 1, 2, 3)
29.1 First Conditional
  1. If food tastes awful when you add too much salt, you will get hungry the next day.
  2. If you misbehave, you get sent to detention.
29.2 Second Conditional
  1. When it gets too cold, we light the fire.
  2. If you squeeze a balloon hard enough, it explodes.
  3. Water boils if you heat it long enough.
  4. Eggs usually break when you drop them.
  5. If you keep cooling water, it eventually freezes.
  6. If you don't pay your bills on time, you get fined.
29.3 Third Conditional
  • If the phone rings, please answer it.
  • If I ever know if you have any problems at all, don't eat if you don't like it.
  • When you buy something expensive, always keep the receipt.
  • If it's sunny tomorrow, make sure to use sunscreen.
  • 29.4 Mixed Conditionals
    1. If it stops raining, I'll finish painting the fence.
    2. If Janine works very hard, she will pass her exams.
    3. If I don't get the job, I'll be very upset.
    4. Sally will lose her job if she keeps missing deadlines.
    5. If it doesn't rain tomorrow, we will have a picnic.
